Vols invade Duck Country

Little by little I am going to get through 2013---

Part of what I signed up for when marrying Mr. Dulin was that most likely we would have several trips to see the Vols play in our lifetime. Thankfully one of them included going to see them play against the Oregon Ducks back in September 2013. I had never been to Oregon and 5 days in Portland and Eugene was not a hard sell. Although the outcome of the game was not what we had hoped, we made sure to make the best of our time and did our favorite thing- Explore!

Packing bags filled with Orange---he wasn't kidding when he told me on the road for a game meant all orange all the time
Exploring Portland's finest and representing our Vols
Our favorite part was enjoying the Oregon wine country---what we miss so much about CA. Very different from Northern CA wines but nonetheless the perfect way to spend our drive up to Eugene
We had missed being in the vineyards
Proving the dedication to wearing orange everywhere we went---everyone at the wineries started asking why so many people were wearing orange that day because there was a sea of orange at every stop we made
Our last glimpse of the wineries until our next trip out West

We made it to Duck Country (or as some call it the University of Nike!)
Tailgating in OR was definitely not anything to write home about, BUT there was a very impressive and large UT tailgate right next to the stadium
And the best part was getting to enjoy the tailgate with Jill and Philip
Then we ventured inside the OR tailgate which takes place inside the indoor practice facility---and stays open the whole game to go in and out of for food and drink and watch other games on all the TV's. That part was very well done---and we found ourselves in there late in the game to watch some other games as the one we had come to see wasn't going so well...
One of the MANY super impressive facilities at OR---hence The University of Nike name

The Vols taking the field---and our seats smack dab in the UT section

Probably the farthest we'll ever travel to watch UT play---but definitely not the last away game we'll attend.
A trip to Portland isn't complete without a stop at Voodoo Doughnuts
An overwhelming selection of doughnuts
Trying the maple bacon one...
Trying the chocolate, peanut butter, oreo doughnut---just as you would imagine, it was TOO much going on, but hard to resist. The plain blueberry cake doughnut (not pictured) was both of our favorite.
As if we hadn't had enough sugar from Voodoo, after dinner one night we went to the most amazing ice cream place we had ever been---Salt & Straw. They let you try as many flavors as you want before ordering. You can see the crazy flavors above here. Some that we tried: Loaded Baked Potato, Hawaiian PB&J, Pear with Blue Cheese, and Honey Lavender.
Exploring the Columbia River Gorge
One of the MANY waterfalls along the way

Tiny Whit next to a giant waterfall
Our favorite one along the way---especially the bridge you can walk up to in the middle of the fall
Lucky to be with someone who likes to explore as much as I do. We definitely enjoyed our time in Oregon---and as it so happened--- it was the first trip of many that Baby Dulin would go on with us. Two days later we unexpectedly learned that our family was already forming!
